1. Tell us about your business and when you started?
I’m a solo attorney in Jersey City with a practice that focuses mainly on real estate law. I work closely with people who are buying and selling property, whether it’s first-time homebuyers who are purchasing their first home, to real estate developers looking to gut renovate brownstones and turn them into condos. I work with landlords and tenants to help make things right when they go wrong. Essentially, I’m a problem solver: I do my best to ease my clients’ minds by making an otherwise complicated and frustrating process as straightforward and stress-free as possible.
I opened my practice in January of 2013, and honestly haven’t looked back since. It’s not always easy going it alone, but I wouldn’t trade anything for the freedom it gives me. Lawyers have a really bad image problem: I AM one, and the word alone still makes me think of stuffy offices with too much mahogany and over-starched suits. Not here. My office is bursting with color! I’ve surrounded myself with inspirational quotes and pictures of the Dalai Lama laughing, and have a framed print of Abraham Lincoln riding a dinosaur hanging on the wall. There’s no question that the work I do is serious – for most people, buying a home is the single largest investment they’ll ever make – but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.
2. How long have you been a member of the Indiegrove coworking community?
I’ve been a member of Indiegrove from the very start! I remember the very early days when Zahra and I were sometimes the only two people in the coworking space. It’s been awesome to grow together.
3. What do you love most about being a member of Indiegrove?
The community and the connections with my co-workers. We’re all working in different companies and on totally different things, but in a way, we’re still all working together. There are a number of other solo attorneys in the space (all breaking the mold together, I might add!), and between us, I’m pretty sure we have every major practice area covered. I love that we’re able to bounce ideas off of each other and cross-refer business. Indiegrove is a collaborative, welcoming environment where we all want each other to thrive – that’s what truly makes this place special.
4. What do you do when you are not working?
When I’m not working? Is this a trick question? Ha! Just kidding… kind of…
If I’m not working, I’m on an adventure. I love camping and spending time outdoors, and even recently invested in a text-ready satellite phone to stay connected to the office when I’m otherwise “off the grid”. I’ve tried to climb a few mountains this year, but there’s always been some kind of last-minute natural disaster that’s prevented the climb. Nice try, mountains – I’ll see you from the summit in 2016!
